WHO Is He?

Do we really know this man?  This man who is President of Taiwan?  Everyone, including the President himself, states that he was born in Hong Kong.  Could this has been to make us, the people, feel that Ma Ying-Jeou believes more in the sovereignty of our island?

In a previous post (under the section titled, “Recent Events”), I’ve talked about the idea of Ma having been raised by a Chinese family and studied under the KMT government and schools.  How does he really know Taiwan, its sovereignty and the better future for it?

Who Said What?

Chai Trong-Rong (蔡同榮), first president of the World United Formosans for Independence and Legislator of the Democratic Progressive Party spoke out in a press conference, accusing the President of lying about his birthplace.  Documents reveal that the actual birthplace is: Shenzhen, China!  According to the Legislator, Ma has a “trust issue,” that he had allegeldy signed three documents that proved he was not born in Hong Kong.  These documents can be found within his [first] unpublished autobiography and on the birth certificate of his daughter, Lesley Ma.  Stating from his second autobiography, reads Guang-Dong Province, China as his birthplace (Shenzhen is located in Guang-Dong).

Review and Compare:

(Interesting fact: Obama is not a US Citizen due to a law stating that the Presidential Office requires a natural-born citizen if the child was not born to two US citizen parents [please refer to John McCain]…  “If only one parent was a US itizen at the time of your birth, that parent must have resided in the United States for at least ten years, at least five of which had to be aftert he age of 16.”  His mother fails under this law because she had not been a citizen for ten years, but five years, prior to Obama’s birth.)

Of course, this is Taiwan and not the United States, but lets review for comparison U.S.’s law for presidency as I shall quote from buzzflash.com:

“No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.”

In simpler terms, in the United States, it is mandatory for one to be a “natural born Citizen” to be President.  Why am I bringing up such an unrelated issue, not to mention the law of a country that is NOT Taiwan???  Because, very simple: Taiwan looks up to the U.S. for its finance, economics and law.  U.S. is the reason why we are able to return purchased items (with receipts and week of purchase, unopened), why we abolished the death penalty, etc.  Even the Congress wrote to former President George W. Bush on how former President Chen Shui-Bian has been detained in prison long before a court’s verdict.

Authenticism:

(Photo, acquired from article dated February 15, 2008) Ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) presidential candidate Frank Hsieh accused opposition Kuomintang Ma Ying-jeou yesterday of using the name “Mark Ma” when applying for a U.S. residency permit, or “green card.”

(Photo, acquired from article dated February 15, 2008) Ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) presidential candidate Frank Hsieh accused opposition Kuomintang Ma Ying-jeou yesterday of using the name “Mark Ma” when applying for a U.S. residency permit, or “green card.”

In revealing the three manuscripts at the press conference on February 4, confirms Ma’s very own signature, the documents are authentic.

Recalling to when Ma began running for public office, he stated to the public that he was born in Hong Kong.  With such breaking news, it damages the trust in his followers.  WHY would he lie?  Even back in the presedential election of 2008, Frank Hsieh (謝長廷) brought up the same question, this is nothing new!

“How is it possible for a person seeking the presidency to have alternate versions of his birthplace?”  Hsieh spokesman Cheng Wen-Tsang (鄭文燦) continues, “Ma said at that time that he was born at the British-owned Kowloon Hospital, and that’s why he was named `Ying-jeou,.”

Derived from an article in a defunct magazine, Cheng alleged Ma’s words stating that his birthplace had been in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, China in 1950.  Cheng recalls the story as being corroborated by other documents and claimed Ma having said, in a visit to Hong Kong, that he was to visit Kowloon Hospital for his birth certificate.

Where are the Papers?

Of course, one must go straight to the source, the President, on the matter.  What is the conculsion?  A typical one: he is out of reach for a comment, and this was raised one month ago in a public press conference.

“Honesty is very important for a head of state, and it is sad that Taiwan has a president who is not honest,” says Chai.

On December 11, 2008, the Presidential Office, dismissed allegations that President Ma had been born in the Guangdong Province.  Revealing Ma’s copy of birth certificate, Presidential Office Spokesman Wang Yu-Chi (王郁琦) reads the enscripted, that Ma was born in Hong Kong on July 13, 1950.

This is to say that Ma is NOT lying and only going by what the documentation reads.  It’s an open-and-shut case.  BUT, why would he state otherwise in his autobiography?  Lets recall the time two generations back: legal documents printed one’s birthday as the date one’s parent has publicly announced the birth of their child.  However, this is one year after the child’s birth and not to the exact date.  To publicly state one’s actual birthdate, against what the document states, does not make one liar.

What is the unfolding public opinion?  It only lies with one’s personal reflection over recent political events.  Case closed.
